Nestled in the rolling hills of southern Indiana, Dubois County is a treasure trove of creativity and heritage. One of Jasper’s newest attractions is the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center, featuring three art galleries displaying work from artists from around the country and also host of a variety of unique workshops teaching the workings of painting, pottery and clay turning, and more. Jasper Community Arts has an annual live performance schedule that brings in a variety of live performances featuring musicians, plays and more at either the historic Astra Theater or the Jasper Arts Center.

The Astra Theatre
The historic theater first opened in 1936 and operated as a family-owned movie theater for 66 years. On Sept. 12, 2002 the theater closed and sat vacant for 12+ years. A local group of passionate community members created a non-profit, Next Act Inc. in 2015 and raised funds to purchase the building. The group received a historic preservation grant and went through a complete renovation and opened its doors in 2018 after completing the $1.7 million project.
The Astra now hosts a variety of entertainment throughout the year including showing classic hit movies, hosting comedians and muscians and more!

Dubois County Museum
Known as one of the largest county museums in the state of Indiana, this museum showcases the rich German heritage and history of the Dubois County area. Take a journey back in time with a visit to the double log cabin, historic agricultural machinery collection and the furniture industry, sports and military exhibits. Visit the “Main Street Dubois County” featuring 17 rooms portraying life at the turn of the 20th century including a barber shop, bank, hotel, photographer and shoe shop. A hands-on area houses a one-room schoolhouse and play yard, an interactive Lewis and Clark expedition boat, dress-up area, and a log reading nook.

The Monastery Immaculate Conception
Located in Ferdinand, the Sisters of Saint Benedict welcome you to tour and experience their home. Also located on the grounds of the Monastery is an outdoor Grotto and the Monastery Gift Shop. Tours are available Tuesday – Sunday. Don’t miss St. Benedicts Brew Works, known to be the only brewery located on the grounds of a Monastery in the entire United States!
St. Joseph Catholic Church, located in Jasper is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open to the public to take a personal tour and view the beautiful stained glass windows and mosaics above the altar.
