With warmer weather approaching it’s the perfect time to start the camping season! Campfires, making smores, playing flashlight tag, grilling over the fire, and taking hikes, or going out on the water make the perfect camping weekend! What better way to have family time and disconnect for the weekend. Here in Dubois County we have a few good places for camping. Whether you are camping in a tent, 5th wheel, or an RV we have places for you!
Dubois County Park (4-H Fairgrounds)
The Dubois County Park is around 141 acres which includes 48 campsites with parking pads, electricity, water, picnic tables, and grills. They also offer 5 shelter houses for parties (first come first serve). They have 3 sets of restroom facilities, including one “FAMILY” and one with showers.
They also have a lot of other amenities for families to enjoy. They have 2 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, playground areas, baseball/softball field, and 3 horseshoe pits. At the entrance of the park, you will see 2 lakes where fishing is available. (License required) Around the lakes you will find walking paths and an 18 hold disc golf course.
The Ferdinand State Forest is located off of State Road 264. Here you will find 57 primitive sites which are all first come, first served basis. Each site comes with a picnic table and a grill. Leaving the campgrounds, you will find many trail heads for all your hiking or biking needs. Enjoy over 10 miles of all levels of difficulty. The Forest also has a beach and a lake for swimming and fishing. (Swim at your own risk) One unique thing about the forest is there’s a fire tower. There are only 13 left in the state of Indiana! Are you up for the challenge?
There are 5 different shelter houses that are available for day use. Picnic tables and grills at the picnic sites. Playground and horseshoe pits are located near the swimming beach.
Patoka Lake is by far the biggest campgrounds Dubois County has to offer. It is 25,800 acres with an 8,800-acre lake! There is so much to do here. No matter what you are in to Patoka Lake has you covered. They offer plenty of hiking/fitness/biking trails, disc golf, boat rentals, beach area for swimming, and plenty of shelter houses to host any get together.
They have 455 electric sites, 45 primitive sites. You can book this campground up to 6 months in advance with booking it online with the Indiana DNR website.
Patoka Lake offers three different marinas for boat rentals. You can rent house boats, speed boats, or pontoon boats.
Also located at the entrance of the park is Patoka Lake Winery. You can enjoy the tasting room with wine and a wine slushy. They also have a gift shop and multiple event venue options.
