Date: September 22, 2023

Jasper Community Arts, along with Dubois County Tourism and Heart of Jasper are delighted to announce the unveiling of two Jasper murals. With the assistance of a grant from IDDC, the three parties have commissioned a mural at the Jasper River Walk and a second mural for the west wall of the building located at 248 Third Street in Jasper.

The artist selected for this project was professional artist/muralist, Laura Pommier. Laura was originally from Jasper and now resides in Florida. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to bring Laura back to Jasper.

Pommier holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Murray State University and a master’s in painting from Indiana State University. Her award-winning artwork has been in countless exhibitions and now on buildings and walls. To view Laura’s work, visit her website: https://www.laurapommier.com/.

The mural walls were cleaned and primed at the beginning of August, and Laura has been painting daily
since, Friday, August 18th. Laura has worked continuously from sun up to hours past sun down every day for the last month and a half.

The community is welcome to stop by at any time during the painting of the mural to view the creative process.

An Unveiling Reception for the murals, along with a Q&A Reception, will take place on Wednesday,
September 27th, starting at the Jasper River Walk’s “River of Dreams” mural. The public is invited and encouraged to attend both events:

-The Unveiling Reception from 11:00am-12:00pm
-The Q&A Reception from 5:30 – 6:30pm

Laura will join us for both events to share with us her artistic mural process, along with answering any
questions. Please bring a lawn chair. No reservations required.

Public art has been demonstrated as a vehicle for prosperity and community unity in many cities. Jasper Community Arts strives to bring these artistic opportunities to our citizens and businesses. This project is meant to help initiate more public art. Jasper Community Arts is excited to inspire diversity and accessibility of our expanding community. Art can be thought provoking, meaningful, or just beautiful, all of which will be a positive addition to our downtown area.

Jasper Community Arts is a department of the City of Jasper. Our programming is made possible with supportfrom Dubois County Community Foundation, Friends of the Arts, Inc., Arts Midwest, the Indiana Arts Commission, Vanderburgh Community Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
