Jasper Community Arts unveiled the artists featured as part of its upcoming 2022-2023 performance season.

Twelve performances will be showcased, most occurring at the Jasper Arts Center, with a few presented at the historic Astra Theatre. JCA’s 2022-2023 season will run from September 2022 through April 2023. Patrons who had purchased tickets in previous seasons should expect to receive a season guide in the mail in a couple of weeks.

Jasper Community Arts offers patrons several packages from which to choose. The Grand Package includes tickets to all twelve performances and offers the best per ticket price for each performance. Subscriptions are also available for the Main Stage, Backstage, & Live at the Astra series.

Those who had a subscription during the 2021-2022 season will be able to renew their subscription(s) beginning June 6. New subscriptions may be purchased beginning July 1 and individual tickets may be purchased beginning August 1.

Beginning August 1, individual tickets will be available for purchase online at www.jasperarts.org/tickets. Patrons do not need to buy an entire series to order tickets, but JCA does recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance due to high demand. New subscriptions and single tickets are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so interested patrons should order those tickets as soon as possible.

MAIN STAGE SERIES: $150/adult, $141/senior, $128/student

Featuring five headlining artists, the Main Stage Series offers a wide selection of world-class artists. The 2022-2023 Main Stage Series is presented with support from Jim & Pat Thyen.

REDUCED SHAKESPEARE COMPANY in “HAMLET’S BIG ADVENTURE [a prequel]” Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. What will young Hamlet grow up To Be? That is the question! A fast, funny, and physical extravaganza f illed with scary ghosts, wee Scots, singing nuns, and a mysterious vassal in the castle, Hamlet and Ophelia navigate their parents and their own feelings while putting on a show – what could possibly go wrong? In the spirit of Shakespeare himself, RSC shows contain some occasional bawdy language and mild innuendo. Some content may not be appropriate for children under the age of 13.

THE ACTING COMPANY: THE THREE MUSKETEERS 3 Written by Kirsten Childs From the Novel by Alexandre Dumas Directed by Kent Gash Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. This world premiere adaptation commissioned by The Acting Company will draw inspiration from an astonishing secret that Dumas’ father, General Alex Dumas, was the highest-ranking Person of Color in a Western military until our own time. The Three Musketeers will shed new light on this swashbuckling adventure and give a favorite story new importance. An inspiring tale filled with laughter and adventure, The Three Musketeers is a reminder to all that courage, honesty, and valour can change the world. 

HITTING NEW HEIGHTS (with Broadway’s Mandy Gonzalez and Javier Muñoz) Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. The Broadway stars of “Hamilton” and “In the Heights” join voices to celebrate Broadway’s hottest composers, from Stephen Schwartz to Lin-Manuel Miranda. Featuring songs from Wicked to Hamilton and beyond, this is truly a tour de-force concert event!

BACKSTAGE SERIES: $64/adult, $59/senior, $38/student The Backstage Series offers a unique and intimate experience as the audience is seated on stage with the artist.

LETTERS ALOUD: ALL OUR BEST ( Presented with support Perseverance in Times of Struggle Friday, November 4, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. from MasterBrand Cabinets, Inc.) Featuring real letters from real people throughout history writing about their experiences in times of pandemics, civil rights activism, and more. Most importantly, they write about finding hope and meaning—and humor— when times are particularly tough. 

INVOKE ( Presented with support from Jim & Pat Thyen) Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Described as “not classical…but not not classical” (David Srebnik, SiriusXM Classical Producer), Invoke continues to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification. The multi-instrumental band’s other ‘not-nots’ encompass traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. Invoke weaves all of these styles together to create truly individual music written by and for the group (Presented with support from Kimball International) 

4 AN EVENING WITH ROBIN SPIELBERG ( Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Whether playing music that embraces the transitions of the seasons, celebrating the thrill of romance, or familiar holiday songs, Robin Spielberg’s concerts intertwine accomplished musical performance with humor and stories that inspire. As an artist with a multifaceted and successful career, Spielberg has performed in such prestigious environments as: Carnegie Hall, (3 times), the Seoul Arts Center, Mao Livehouse in Shanghai, on CBS Saturday Morning, PBS, Life Time Live, and NPR.

LIVE AT THE ASTRA: $64/adult, $38/student Three lively performances will be presented at the Astra Theatre in downtown Jasper.

THE QUEEN’S CARTOONISTS Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. The Queen’s Cartoonists play music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation. The performances are synchronized to video projections of the original films, with the goal of creating a concert of classical music and jazz for everyone — regardless of age, gender, or familiarity with the concert hall. Since their inception in 2015, The Queen’s Cartoonists have gone from playing in the New York subway system to selling out the Blue Note Jazz Club and opening for the New York Philharmonic. The 6 members, born on 3 continents, are now residents of Queens, NY. Expect the unexpected from a repertoire that includes the Golden Age of animation, cult cartoon classics, modern video pieces, comedy, and elements of a musical circus! 

THE SECOND CITY: JINGLE BELL RUCKUS Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. THE SECOND CITY TOURING COMPANY is always original, daring, and hilarious. Their alumni list is a veritable “Who’s Who” of comedy, including Bill Murray, John Belushi, Mike Myers, Eugene Levy, Steve Carell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Stephen Colbert, Jason Sudeikis, Aidy Bryant, Keegan-Michael Key and so many more. Kick off the holidays this November with classic satire sprinkled with yule-tide merriment.

ROYAL WOOD Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Royal Wood has established himself as a true musical talent. Royal ceaselessly continues to evolve and hone his musical craft – earning multiple JUNO Award nominations and the title of iTunes “Songwriter of the Year” along the way, as well as touring with Bonnie Raitt and David Gray. Jumping between guitar, piano and ukulele, Royal “brings class and craft to his pop-rock stylings, delivering them with a rich and resonant voice” (CBC Music).
