The Ferdinand Christkindlmarkt, celebrating its 28th Anniversary, is taking place November 15-16 in Ferdinand, Indiana! Visitors are invited to shop over 200 lavishly decorated booths spilling over with quality hand crafted items, Christmas wares, antiques, art, and delicious regional food and wine! While most know the Christkindlmarkt for the unique shopping, there is much more to experience!! Read below for the top 5 OTHER things to do while in town…
1. Ferdinand’s new 32-foot German Christmas Pyramid brings authentic Erzgebirge tradition to the charming town of Ferdinand — a multi-tiered, rotating wooden landmark that tells the Christmas story and celebrates the town’s German heritage. Illuminated during the holiday season and anchored by a year-round vendor base, the pyramid is the centerpiece of Ferdinand’s Christkindlmarkt and a must-see photo spot for visitors.
2. A must see FREE performance! LIVE Glockenspiel performances take place in the auditorium of the Forest Park Jr. & Sr. High School. Local high school students work hard every year to showcase their talents to perform a live glockenspiel during the markt on Saturday & Sunday at 11am, 12pm & 1pm.
3. Make plans to attend the FREE Sounds of the Season Concert on Saturday at 7pm at the Monastery Immaculate Conception. Talented musicians will be performing seasonal and traditional Christmas songs to get you in the Christmas spirit. A freewill donation is appreciated.
4. If you come in town early, don’t miss the Eve Ceremony on Friday night that takes place on the grounds of The Monastery Immaculate Conception. Also, be sure to take a free tour of their beautiful domed church listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tours are available Saturday between 10:00am-11:30am and 12:30-3pm. Sunday tours are available between 12:30pm – 3pm.
Exciting News!! The Christkindlmarkt Eve Dinner is back! Enjoy a plated dinner in the Monastery with music and good company. Cost is $35 per person.
5. Join 3rd generation of The Melchior Marionettes, Heidi, as she shares her beautifully hand-crafted marionettes. “Holiday Cabaret on Strings” performs in the auditorium of the Forest Park Jr. & Sr. High School on Saturday at 12:15pm, 1:15pm, & 3:15pm and Sunday at 11:15am and 1:15pm. Since 1952, the Melchior Marionettes have been performing throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia.
6. Activities at the Ferdinand Library
NEW! Enjoy Ice Skating in thes South parking lot of the Ferdinand Library on Saturday from 10am-5pm & Sunday 10am – 3pm.
Visit with Santa at the Ferdinand Library on Main Street from 1-4pm on Saturday.Children of all ages are welcome to let Santa know what is on their Christmas list!
