Dubois County Visitors Center & Tourism Commission Awards Grants and Sponsorship Funding

February 8, 2010 -- Jasper, IN – Thirteen local organizations in Dubois County will receive a total of approximately $28,000 in grant and sponsorship funding from the Dubois County Visitors Center & Tourism Commission’s Tourism Promotion Fund and Sports Sponsorship Fund respectively. 

The Tourism Promotion Fund is designed to assist qualified not-for-profit organizations, events or tourism-related groups in initiating, developing and promoting increased tourism in the Dubois County area. The seven recipients were carefully chosen by the Commission’s board members. Recipients for the January 2010 grant round include the Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce/Town of Ferdinand for costs associated with nationally-touring music artists for the first annual Ferdinand Folk Festival; Historic Landmarks Foundation of IN for the “Barn Again! in Indiana” Workshop & Tour; Huntingburg Merchant’s Association for promotion of Old Fashioned Bargain Days; Holland Kiwanis Club for the second annual Gun & Knife Tradeshow; IN Federation of Music Clubs for the State Convention & Honors Recital; Jasper Chamber of Commerce for production of tourism tear-off maps and Kiwanis Club of Huntingburg for promotion of the annual Kiwanis Car Show. 

The Sports Sponsorship Fund was created to attract high quality amateur and professional sporting events that advance and promote year-round tourism, have a positive economic impact and enhance quality of life in Dubois County.  Recipients of the Sports Sponsorship Fund include Jasper Boys Basketball Booster Club for the Jammin’ in Jasper tournament; Jasper High School Softball Booster Club for ASA 16 & 18U Diamonds of the South and the ASA IN State 18U tournaments; Jasper Cardinals Baseball Club for the Early Bird Bash and Scott Rolen Summer Slam tournaments; Southern Indiana Babe Ruth Leagues for the All-State Weekend; Indiana Bass Federation for the Northern Divisional tournament and Jasper Aquatic Wildcat Swimmers for the South Divisional Championship tournament.  
 
“We were very pleased with the quality and number of grant and sports sponsorship applications we received,” said Kristen Ruhe, executive director of the Tourism Commission & Visitors Center. “It is wonderful to see the emphasis and value our local organizations place on attracting visitors to Dubois County.”
 
The Tourism Commission & Visitors Center awards grants two times per year. Application deadlines are January 15 and July 15 each year.  Sports sponsorships are awarded throughout the year with a deadline to submit an application no later than two months in advance of the tournament. To request either application, please call the Visitors Center at 812-482-9115 or email info@visitduboiscounty.com.
