Nestled among the hills and fields of southwestern Indiana, the Ferdinand Folk Festival is an earth-friendly and family-friendly event promoting music, the arts, and the environment. This free festival, located in Ferdinand's 18th Street Park, will feature nationally-acclaimed musicians as well as exceptional local and regional acts. Patrons will experience a rich variety of acoustic music on the stage. In nearby booths, local artists and artisans will display and sell their work, area gardeners and farmers will sell fresh produce, and groups dedicated to creating vibrant communities and a sustainable environment will provide education on a variety of topics. Fun activities for children will also be available in the park.
Rich Robinson, co-founder of The Black Crowes, and his band will headline the 2016 Ferdinand Folk Festival on September 17, 2016.
Including the overall winner of the second annual Ferdinand Folk Festival singer-songwriter competition (official call for entrants to be released within the next couple weeks), the remainder of the seventh annual Ferdinand Folk Festival Main Stage lineup is:
Buffalo Killers – buffalokillers.com: Buffalo Killers hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, deliver hook heavy homegrown rock-n-roll. Lead by a pair of songwriting brothers, the band has drawn the attention of the likes of Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes—who, at the time, invited them to open for them on a string of dates. Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys liked them so much that he produced their sophomore effort “Let It Ride”.
Jonathan Tyler – jonathantylermusic.com: Dallas, Texas’ Jonathan Tyler has been touring extensively since 2007. He has supported major acts such as ZZ Top, The Black Crowes, Leon Russell, and Chicago. He has performed at popular music festivals SXSW (South by southwest), Forecastle, and Bonnarroo and has received critical acclaim from USA Today, American Songwriter, Chicago Sun Times, and in 2010 was named “Best Male Vocalist” by the Dallas Observer.
Jefferson Street Parade Band – jeffersonstparadeband.bandcamp.com: Bloomington, Indiana’s The Jefferson Street Parade Band first hit the streets in the spring of 2009. They dig into songs and rhythms from West Africa, New Orleans, Eastern Europe, and the vastness of Latin America. You may hear them as places as diverse as the streets, a club, or at a wedding.
Harpeth Rising – harpethrising.com: After meeting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Louisville’s Harpeth Rising began on a cross-country road trip. Inspired by a summer spend jamming aat campsites and attending folk and bluegrass festivals, the three members began writing original music. They have since released 5 albums since 2010 and played all over the United States.
Troubadours of Divine Bliss – troubadoursofdivinebliss.com: Making their second appearance at the Ferdinand Folk Festival (their first being the inaugural 2010 event), are international recording artists and an award-winning duo from Kentucky. Their harmonies have been referred to as “soft as Spanish Moss and smooth as Kentucky Bourbon”. They have been honored as “Best Folk Band” in both New Orleans and Louisville, Kentucky.
Hayley Payne – hayleypayne.com: Hayley is a singer-songwriter who would describe her style as “future country”. She is the 2015 under-18 division champion of the inaugural Ferdinand Folk Festival singer-songwriter competition. Last year, she performed multiple sets on the Market Stage.
The Ferdinand Folk Festival is presented by Best Home Furnishings, as well as these fine sponsors: Kyana Woodstock, Kimball Electronics, Access Storage Now, German American, Old National Bank, Jasper Engines & Transmissions, Kimball International, Hot Hot Lover (spices and dry rubs), Uebelhor & Sons, the Ferdinand chapter of Psi Iota Xi, Ferdinand Farmers Mutual, OEEC/Friends of Ferdinand, and Webb Wheel.
