All aboard! The Spirit of Jasper train whistle blew and we were off...
We were taking a Spirit of Jasper Fall Foliage Ride and Dine excursion and came dressed in authentic train era attire. For that day, we were 1920s gals and gents in the time of speakeasies and prohibition.
My brother-in-law wished for wooden nickels to flip to the barkeep as he told the train volunteers that he had saved up and brought a whole $4. "Why, that's enough to last us all night," my sister chimed in.
While that may have not been the case to supply us with drinks from the cash bar, we rode in style on the three beautifully renovated lounge cars that only the wealthy could have afforded in the past. We felt that we fit right in with our glistening jewels (even if they were fake).
In our mind, we heard old time music as my friend, Crystal, who recently took some dance classes, decided to teach another how to do the Charleston - the dance lesson was unsuccesful.
The food was catered by the Schnitzelbank Restaurant, an award winning restaurant in our area, and the meal was delicious, complete with beef brisket, grilled chicken, German fries, corn, coleslaw, and amazing fried rolls and apple butter. For dessert, they did not disappoint with peach cobbler.
It was an enjoyable time for us all, and I would recommend the Spirit of Jasper Train Excursions for anyone.
In the summer and fall choose your adventure on the Spirit of Jasper with the possibilities of dinner and drinks, fall foliage excursions, rides to French Lick, or even a specialty ride with the chocolate, wine, and dinner excursion. The train season begins in June and lasts until the beginning of November.
