This special group tour package provides a spiritual respite from the hectic routine of everyday life.
Your tour begins with a visit to the Saint Meinrad Archabbey, founded in 1854 by monks of the Abbey of Einsiedeln in Switzerland. Today, there are about 135 monks in Benedictine community. The monks of Saint Meinrad extend a warm invitation to visit their home, join them in prayer and share in their peace. Your visit will consist of lunch, a tour of the Archabbey Church and Monte Cassino Shrine, free time at Abbey Press Gift Shop and attendance at Vespers. An evening meal will be served at the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Jasper for an opportunity to sample some authentic German Cusine.
Day two begins with the historic St. Joseph Church, an 1880 Romanesque old world church listed on the National Register of Historic Places, features priceless German stained glass windows, Austrian designed mosaics, and marble statues. Then, it’s off to experience the beauty of the newer, more modern Holy Family Church, which showcases interesting architecture and beautiful stained glass windows. The next stop is the Monastery of Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand. The monastery is home to one of the largest congregations of Benedictine women in the U.S. Known for their hospitality, part of the Benedictine rule by which they live, the sisters welcome visitors to tour the monastery and join them for noon prayer. Enjoy lunch and a presentation about Benedictine life at the Kordes Enrichment Center. Then, spend some time browsing the sisters’ For Heaven’s Sake Gift Shop.
